Anyone out there with Mercury in Pisces that can share how this placement functions?  Is it difficult, perhaps, to express oneself with this position?  I have Mercury conjunct Neptune, and at times I feel as if my explanations come forth in the most confusing, jumbled way.  I wonder if the other person understands what I'm saying at all.  At other times, I know I can sound quite eloquent and poetic.  I enjoy writing and have the ability to put forth very descriptive and vivid images in my writing - my sentences sometimes sound more like poetry than prose.  Sometimes my sentences trail off at the end when I speak in unfinished thoughts, and at times I find it to be a great effort to have to talk at all, usually when I'm forced to " chit chat" with someone when I'd rather be alone in my own thoughts, like in a work situation or something.

Hi Daria, I know a Mercury in Pisces very well. She does have a Virgo emphasis in her chart though, with Virgo rising and Mercury in 6th.... she also has Gemini MC and Neptune on the cusp of the 3rd.

So she is not jumbled or confused at all, is a very eloquent, communicative and verbally tidy person (she would never trail off or jumble up her explanations - on the contrary she explains things extremely thoroughly and is very patient). She is a fluent chatter with anyone - very witty and entertaining - a very sociable and amiable person and uses her conversational skills to lubricate the wheels of social interactions.

Perhaps her most evident Piscean trait is a tendency to get distracted from the focus of a discussion a little too easily - she's dynamite in meetings!! - but I love her dearly.

I've never known her to write prose or poetry - and I wouldnt say that she uses a lot of vivid imagery in speech or writing - she expresses her creativity in more crafty ways. However she is a huge lover of books and music.

Plutonia,  So very interesting.  You describe my friend completely.  He is all that you say about your friend, but he has 4 different aspects of Virgo and a Gemini AC as well as a Gem Pallas.  Rather cool.  Getting him to shut up though is hard. smile

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

I have Mercury in Libra and I have to say I have learned almost everything that I know from books. BIG bookworm. As far as the style of communication aspect I am usually overly long-winded and use too many long words, if I'm not careful not to. I used to do customer service jobs, and tapped into the diplomatic and helpful side of Libra. But the older I get the more Scorpio I get (I have Pluto, Juno, and the Moon in Libra but Mars, Uranus and the N Node in Scorpio conjunct my 29 & change degree Libra Sun). So now I tend to come off as too intense and spooky!

Just thought of someone else I know with Mercury in Libra.  He also has a very pleasant and feminine way of speaking, but holy cow he can be very sharp-tongued when he wants to be - he has Mars square to his Mercury which must explain this.  The "nice" tone to his voice has never felt authentic to me in this person - like it's deliberately put on in order to falsely ingratiate himself toward some gain.  Perhaps the "manipulative" function of Mercury is enhanced by the contact from Mars....????

I have a fabulous Libra stellium involving my Sun, Mercury and Venus. I don't think have that classic 'authoritative' speaking voice like a radio announcer, but I have a childlike, high voice. When I hear myself, I notice my speech is inarticulate and vague compared to what is going on in my mind... and just for fun, I sing a lot. This is all in the 12th house.. which I think just makes me a very 'spacey' speaker and learner. I don't have any Pisces planets, but lots in the 12th house. I have a sun/mercury conj. in the 12th. I'm pretty sure I learn through osmosis. If I take in information, I sleep on it, and the next day it's there. My mind works in mysterious ways. When I sleep, I believe it does its own defrag and arranges everything nicely. The 12th house/pisces is a good placement for mercury as I've read, since it creates a positive integration between the subconscious and the conscious thinking mind. Big on imagination, and it's the kind of thinking that can escape the confines of one's body/ego.. for better or for worse.

I think that a Libra mercury is much smarter than they appear.. They will usually dull down anything too incisive in the sake of keeping the peace. They can usually negotiate things to get their way. We're all nice on the outside but we mean business.

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm only just learning about astrology.
I have Mercury retrograde in Leo placed in the fifth house.
The main thing with this for me, I think, is that I cannot be objective. Even when I try to be objective about something, I find that it is always greatly colored by my sensory and/or emotional experience of it.
When I'm learning something new, it feels like I'm devouring it. My college professors remarked about how completely saturated in a subject I can become. I'm always surprised about the facts and details I can recall, because most of the time, I don't remember having actively tried to learn them. I'm not sure if this is Mercury's influence or something else.

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

Mercury. I never gave it much thought, compared to the other personal planets and Saturn. But now.....

Generally speaking, I learn slowly, absorbing information through observation as well as reading or direct communication. This is consistent with my Mercury in Capricorn. Methodical, fairly controlled, stoic, and relaxed are words that would describe my manner of communication. It has been so throughout my life until this last couple of months.

At this time though I am being hit hard by transiting Pluto conjunct Mercury by less than two degrees. I am constantly researching, discovering amazingly wonderful and horribly painful things! It is enlightening, sure, but also a source of misery. This state of mind has led me to stay at home, behind closed doors,  hermit like, as it is difficult to face the world. Prior to this time period I have usually been able to conceal my emotions when amongst others but it seems that these emotions are now written all over my face in bold colored marker. The incredible thing is that, when I do prod myself out the door, I invariably have bizarre meetings and interactions with people, some with old friends, but several have been with new faces in my life via "chance" encounters or introductions by mutual friends. Synchronicity is abounding!

Having transit Saturn square Saturn, almost exact, also contributes to my mind going around in circles. Uranus has a wider square to my Saturn now but is like a constant reminder of all the options to consider for the future!

But Mercury seems on fire now as it has never been before in my life. Pluto is relentless!!! Communication has therefore been thrown off balance also. At times I can communicate more or less in a "normal" way, but usually I am at one extreme or the other; I am either non-communicative(silent), or I can't help but blabber on in the most personal of ways.

This transit is the deepest I have ever experienced. How it ends up is anybodies guess, of course. What is clear is that a transformation is forcing me away from all my previously acquired beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. There is an accompanying fear of the unknown along with a resolute belief, intuition, psychic feeling, or just plain "knowledge" that certain personal parts of my life will fall into place. So there is also that sense of impatience which itself is uncharacteristic for me.

Does anyone else have the Pluto transit Mercury going on? How are you coping???

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

My Mercury is in Virgo in the 8th House, stationary direct, unaspected by any planets (it only trines the Ascendant), and it is at its critical degree.

My memory is rather way too sharp and keen than I'd like it to be sometimes haha, but it's treating me well so far.  I love to read...I'm rather voracious when it comes to books.  My interests are in philosophy, psychology, and science....basically anything that's "taboo" or requires much depth of understanding.

I'm also a natural at mathematics.  I can calculate all sorts of numbers in my head, and I never got less than 100 on any math test in my life, all the way up to Calculus III.  I'm a very factual, practical, and logical thinker.  Give me facts, give me data, and I turn into a human computer hahaha.

As for my speaking ability, I've noticed that whenever I give a speech or make a presentation, I tend to captivate my audience and keep them in my grip, so to speak.  I tend to speak very directly and convincingly.  With my Moon in Aries in the 3rd House of Communication and as a singleton planet in my chart forming a "funnel/bucket pattern," I could probably be easily labeled as one of the "Great Communicators."

Oh, and just to throw something else out there, I think about sex A LOT, and I think it has something to do with my Mercury being in the 8th House.  Venus conjunct Mars in Leo (ALSO in the 8th House) just adds a physical dimension to my thoughts.  So basically, I come up with ideas or thoughts and I certainly don't hesitate to act on them.

Pretty good analysis, don't you think?

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

I have mercury in aries conjuct my venus in the 10th house..and i can relate to the short attention span. I think i learn better through hands on or experiencing something. Being an active part of a discussion holds my intrest more then reading or hearing a lecture..And i think i do randomly jump around alot in conversations..Also when im around my aries friends it's hard for anyone else to get a word in...it seems like we just talk louder over each other, but then my friend with stellium in leo seems to be louder and more dramatic in her speaking also very animated it's funny just to watch her tell stories..

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

I have Mercury in Aquarius, and Mercury is my chart ruler.  I would consider myself a good communicator; most of my friends are young adults rather than my own age.  My only beef with written English is with chatspeak and incorrect spelling, good thing I don't have to worry about that in Italian!

As for learning, I don't usually take notes in class since my mind picks up everything through my ears, but I have to absorb the information and form an opinion about it before I can give a detailed explanation of it back out.  I pick up things rather quickly once someone explains it to me, though.  I can usually figure out how to use a computer program or tool pretty quick by myself, too.  My mind always has to be at work somehow; if I'm not thinking, I get instantly bored.  Pretty much the only time my mind is at rest is when I sleep.

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

My Mercury is also in Aquarius and I'm a lot like you in some ways.  I can definiately relate to the minimal note-taking, and I also find that my mind is constantly whirling.

I'm fast learner, though I'm really bad at memorizing numbers.  I'm also a decent public speaker and I'm not afraid to debate (as long as there aren't any personal attacks).

Mercury in Sag in the 8th house. Although i love reading about stuff, i learn by doing. You can show me, but i'm still not going to really get a handle on whatever, until i do it myself.
and to the previous Merc in Sag above, i can really relate to not wanting to be encumbered by too much stuff. I have gotten rid of stuff when I felt I could not take it with me... (i didn't go anywhere, but still had that feeling)

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

I have Mercury in Pisces and I do write Poetry and love music. I also love the ocean. However, I have Mars and Chiron conjunct Mercury and Pluto is opposing all three, so my mental processes are probably more direct and forceful than a typical person with Mercury in Pisces.

I have a pretty good memory.

I can second that; I have Mercury in Leo in the 10th, and it is very similar to this description. Voracious appetite for information and perspective, but it's *highly* subjective, and thought and learning for me always comes back to how it relates to myself - my experiences, my feelings, my previous established ideas, my vision/desires, memories, etc. Seeing past myself has always been really challenging to me, and at the shadow end of that I've struggled much with mental illness, solipsism, nihilism, and the like. My Merc is also cazimi to my Sun, conjunct Moon, and sextile Uranus, so I'm sure that probably affects it. How I experience it: it's like having a very sensitive antenna up all the time, that picks up all sorts of signals from who knows where, combined with incoming sense-data, and for my entire life it has taken all that info and fed it into this inner crucible where it gradually coalesces into patterns, and then memories, and the new incoming info is always related back to what is already established. Mentally I feel like I'm at the center of a feedback loop that has taken on a life of its own!

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

Wow, what a cool topic to discuss!  I also have Mercury in Leo in the 10th...coincidence or destiny?  Anyway, I understand the not being able see past yourself because I feel that way often.  One of my biggest fears is that I am really a narcissist and I am always questioning whether or not I am being objective enough about any of my thoughts or opinions.  Then it occurs to me that a narcissist probably wouldn't do that...right?  I can be a philosopher, poet, psychologist, and intellectual all at once - but a total airhead too.  I have a Virgo moon in the 11th and Saturn/Venus conjunct in the 8th in Gemini so I have lots of analytical thinking met by a lot of dead ends!

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

I think Mercury is strongest in the air signs and because the fire signs are opposite, it's harder for Mercury there. Lack of duality in fire, maybe? I try to get past the lack of objectivity by working really hard to see things from others' points of view, and when I remember to do that, it usually works well, but I often forget and can be very oblivious and off-putting to people. I never intend to be arrogant with my communication - Leo almost always means well unless angered - but it's a humbling lesson to realize that sometimes I come across that way.

Oh, and the other thing I notice about Leo Mercury: the tendency to always think in big-picture terms and generalities. I do it to a fault, to the point where the tiniest little mundane issue becomes a dramatic life-or-death, existential issue of cosmic significance. Ugh, it's so annoying sometimes! OTOH I'm fairly intuitive at getting the jist of something from only a cursory preview of information, and at times I can be fairly sensitive to 'vibes' and nonverbal communication (though other times I don't even notice the subtleties - depends on if I'm tuned in and looking for them or not!)

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

This is an interesting thread.
I can identify with both Plutonia and Catwoman, as I also have Mercury in Virgo. Mine is conjunct both Asc and Venus and sextile Uranus.
So my mind works pretty fast, I tend to talk fast if I don't stop myself and have a hard time not interrrupting those who speak slower. My husband has Mercury in Pisces and waiting for him to finish a sentence nearly drives me nuts !
I really hate sloppy grammar, bad punctuation and those who use bad language. With these days of spell-checkers etc. there is no excuse for grammatical errors IMO.
I rarely raise my voice but if I get upset I can be quite sarcastic. Attention to detail is all.
This combination makes me very opinionated (something I am trying hard to correct) as well as being hyper-critical. I read in an astrology book once  that folks with Mercury conj Asc would rather "put up than shut up" and I guess that sums it up.
People say I have a "nice" telephone voice - that must be the conj to Venus.
Now my Mercury has progressed into Scorpio and I'm getting more secretive and keep my own counsel more, which can only be a good thing .........

I have Mercury in Taurus in the 11th house trine Moon in Virgo in the 3rd (in various forms of mutual reception) both in trine to North Node in Capricorn conjunct the Descendant and the contr'antiscia of Saturn. Mercury's also sextile my Cancer Ascendant/Sirius/Moon-Sun Midpoint Conjunction, square Jupiter in the 8th, and quincunx Neptune in the 5th.

My third house cusp is Virgo of course!  With Moon trining Mercury blah blah blah.  Yeah I'm a nerd.  But I'm an intuitive, empathic nerd who can feel what you're thinking and knows better than to tell you to your face that he knows what you're feeling.  So it ain't so bad.  I live in a joyful non-fearful present buoyed by the wisdom that it's all gonna be all right once we plutonify those darn saturnians.

Re: Mercury in...how do you learn and communicate?

Lol Grace - I'm enjoying your recent comments.  I love the idea of plutonifying the saturnians, instead of it being the other way around.  It seems we have some natal similarities - I share your moon in virgo and I am a cancer sun.  I'm also in the uranus opp pluto bunch.

I also feel like a nerd sometimes, especially because I tend to intellectualize things that are of an emotional or sexual nature.  I'm not embarrassed by sex - maybe a little restricted - but I realize that I can destroy a moment by trying to analyze feelings and energies that can't really be put into words.  I have to laugh at myself for it, though.  I think that's the upside of my natal venus/saturn conjunction in gemini in the eighth house. (I think this is also a factor in feeling slightly repressed sexually, when it comes to expression) I can also be really pessimistic and moody, but somehow always find some dark humor at the end of the tunnel.  It's pretty funny to me that I can turn raw sexual energy into "Wow, I must be having a huge hormonal fluctuation.  I should try to notice a pattern...blah, blah, blah...."  WTF?  Who does that?  It's hilarious though, and I'm lucky to have a husband who shares my sense of humor!  (He has natal saturn/moon conjunct in gemini)

Anyway, I wish I had your relaxed optimism.  I work on not being the glass-half-empty guy, but it something I have to continually remind myself of.  It helps to be inspired by more positive people!!

I have a mercury in Scorpio. Communication is not really for me. I love to talk with people I know and with people I am very close to but not to people whom I am just an acquaintance.  slots
