Animus Dream? Recurring suitors; seems important
Hi everyone, I am new to the board. I wanted to post because I've been having a recurring dream for about a year now. They seem to fit somewhat into the Jungian framework as "animus dreams", but they do not go along with the traditional "animus dream" development schema.
The dream is that I am being pursued by a man who is in love with me. The man is different in each dream, and I may or may not have any feelings for him. He pursues me diligently, although not in a threatening way. He is never the same man: sometimes he is a geeky, or a businessman, sometimes a more macho blue collar type...one time he was Rudolph Valentino (!). I may or not find the man attractive, but there is a poignancy in his feelings for me. When I wake up the "courtship" is unresolved: I have neither accepted nor refused him. I often used to dream about male figures who were traditional animus figures, threatening, or helpful/fatherly/big brotherly, but the pursuer motif is new and doesn't seem to exist in the Jungian literature, so I thought I'd try to get others perspectives. By the way, I am neither dating nor involved in any relationships right now. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much. |

Animus Dream? Recurring suitors; seems important
Hi JH, speaking for myself only I can't really 'get' anything from the descriptions of the dreams - I would need to read the dreams rather than an interpretation of the meaning of the dreams. Do you have a few actual journals of them written when the dreams were fresh?

Since you're the only one that has been kind enough to answer my post, I will look in my dream journals and see if they are there and post them. Thanks for stopping by!

Animus Dream? Recurring suitors; seems important
Hi JH - yeah, there are not too many people commenting on dreams at present, I don't know why that is. I love dreams but I don't consider myself learned on Jungian Psychology - not learned enough to comment about the animus. I had a pursuit dream myself just recently, but it had a big fear element and I felt it was more Shadow-material; still wondering what to do about it and with it.... it might be useful to compare our dreams to see what pops out of the images. I'm a great believer in allowing the unconscious to freely-associate with dream imagery, often some pretty meaningful stuff springs into mind. Hope you can find a dream journal or two!!
